October 26 to November 7 – World Premiere of “I’m Not What I Seem: Songs and Stories of Rita MacNeil” by Charlie Rhindress. On tour in Sackville, Amherst, Springhill, Riverview, Saint John, and St Andrews. For details click here.
From November 15 to December 15, the Owens Art Gallery will also be screening Steve Topping’s train-themed film “Reading Canada Backwards” in the picture window of the gallery every night from dusk until dawn. Topping is a visual artist who works with electronics, film and sound. He has made several short films and site-specific film installations, including “Reading Canada Backwards,” which was screened at the Vancouver Film Festival in 1997. According to the artist, the film “is proportional to the landscape from Vancouver to Halifax, Canada. It’s shot at a rate of 3 frames per mile so one can compare the geography of the county.” In addition to this presentation of the film, on November 30, the actual date of the anniversary, the Owens Art Gallery will host an artist talk by Topping at 4 pm. November 22 and 23 – “The Intercolonial Railway: Ties That Bind” by Susan Amos directed by Dale Fawthrop. A community play production celebrating 150 years since the Intercolonial Railway came to Sackville. At the Sackville United Church. “The Day the Train Pulled Into Town” – concert featuring train-themed music composed and performed by Janet Crawford and Ray Legere. “Ray and I both feel very fortunate to live in a community that still experiences the rumblings of the train”, said Janet Crawford. “Working on this “Train” project has been very fulfilling for us both and they’re excited for everyone to hear this new CD.” The CD launch premiere concert will be held Sunday, December 8 at 2:30 pm at the Vogue Cinema.
